Profile
Dr. Ana Margarida Cavaco Guerra serves as an Assistant Researcher at CEOT-UALG in Faro, Portugal. Trained as a Plant Physiologist and Biochemist, she has directed her interests towards the application of intelligent sensing using non-destructive spectroscopic sensors (NDSS) in biological systems and agronomics. Her focus has been on developing real-time orchard management smart tools, with a specific emphasis on fruit development and ripening on tree — an essential aspect of facilitating the transition from current agricultural practices to precision agriculture. Since 2021, she has further been involved in physiological and biochemical studies investigating the causes of the Intervarietal ripening onset lag observed in citrus, which is the basis for continuous fruit production throughout the year.
Areas of Interest

Her work has focused on the development of smart tools for the real-time management of orchards.

She has a particular interest in fruit development and ripening on the tree, an essential aspect in facilitating the transition from current agricultural practices towards precision agriculture.
Recent Research

Since 2021, she has also been involved in physiological and biochemical studies investigating the causes of the intervarietal ripening onset lag.

This phenomenon, described as the “intervarietal ripening onset lag,” has been observed in citrus fruit and underlies continuous fruit production throughout the year.
